Creeping Bentgrass: Bentgrass is a high maintenance grass that is best suited for golf courses.
Dethatching: Thatch is a tightly intermingled layer of living and dead stems, roots, rhizomes, and other plant parts. Thick thatch can prevent water from reaching the roots.
European Crane Fly: This is the biggest turf pest in Western New York. The Crane Fly larvae can thin and kill large sections of turf.
Fall Aeration: Aeration is the mechanical removal of small cores of soil and thatch. Core aeration helps the lawn’s overall health, especially during periods of drought.
Mice: These rodents can cause damage to the lawn especially during the winter. Most of the damage is cosmetic and the grass quickly recovers.
Moles: Moles can cause extensive damage to lawns, and are very difficult to control.
Nutsedge: Is a lawn weed that is light green and becomes very obvious in July. It grows very quickly in the summer, when the growth rate of turfgrass slows down.
Mushrooms: Mushrooms are the result of decomposing organic material in the soil.
Snow Mold Control: This application can help reduce the severity of snow mold.
Summer Patch: Bluegrass sod is highly susceptible to this root system disease which can kill the turf.
Turfgrass Diseases: A variety of diseases can be found on lawns throughout the season. The severity is determined by the grass species and the weather.
White Grub: The larvae of the Japanese Beetle can cause significant damage to turf, if the populations get high enough.
Winterizer Fertilizer: This is applied in November to promote root growth, while the soil temperatures are still warm.
